Acornbush United clinched the Mpumalanga ABC Motsepe League title with four games to go, while Mphakathi Academy are still battling for survival. Following their heroics in the Nedbank Cup, Acornbush United were crowned champions of the Mpumalanga stream after recording a 3-1 win over Forek Academy.

Acornbush have now become the first side to secure their spot in the National Play-Offs, as they push for promotion to the National First Division.

The champions were also handed a mouth-watering clash in the Nedbank Cup, as they will host Soweto giants, Kaizer Chiefs in the Last 16.

TS Galaxay, meanwhile, will not be able to claw back the 15-point deficit in the remaining four games, even if Acornbush lose the rest of the matches.

Galaxy will be looking to maintain second spot after they recorded a 1-0 win away to FC Benfica over the weekend.

Benfica’s loss to Galaxy seems them remain among the relegation candidates, as they occupy 14th spot, one point above the drop zone.

However, Premier United look likely to go down this season, as they remained rooted to the foot table after suffering a 2-1 defeat to Secunda Stars.

Mphakathi Academy failed to take advantage of Benfica’s slip up, as they fell to a 2-1 loss at home to Lumajo. Mphakathi remain 15th, one point behind Befinca.
