After an impressive 2016, The BURGER KING®-sponsored South African National u20 team will embark on a trip to the CAF U20 AFCON in Zambia, while also seeking qualification for the U20 World Cup.

In 2016, Amajita secured their ticket to the 2017 CAF U20 AFCON tournament after seeing off Namibia and Lesotho in the qualifying rounds, while they also finished as runners-up at the COSAFA U20 Cup in December.

Thabo Senong’s charges will now shift their focus to the U20 AFCON tournament, which is scheduled to take place from 26 February 2017 – 12 March 2017.

Amajita were drawn in Group B alongside Senegal, Cameroon and Sudan, with all their group encounters taking place in Ndola, while they will start their campaign against the Young Lions of Teranga on Monday, 27 February 2017.

The squad contains a number of exciting players to look out for, which include Portugal-based duo, Liam Jordan and Luther Singh, while the likes of Phakamani Mahlambi (Bidvest Wits), Grant Margeman (Ajax Cape Town) and Kobamelo Kodisang (Platinum Stars) are all making a name for themselves in the Absa Premiership.

Should Amajita qualify for the semi-finals of the tournament they will automatically qualify for the 2017 FIFA U20 World Cup scheduled to take place in South Korea from 20 May 2017 – 11 June 2017.

With so much at stake in Zambia, BURGER KING® is encouraging all South Africans to join them in supporting Amajita throughout the 2017 CAF U20 AFCON.

Dr Hassen Adams, Chairman of BURGER KING® wishes Amajita well, “the team has an opportunity to showcase their ability to the rest of Africa and indeed the rest of the world when they compete in the upcoming tournament.”

He added that, “it is important for Amajita to remember that many young South African footballers aspire to represent their country. They are in a position to make a positive impact not only to their lives but to the lives of those who support and idolise them for their achievements. We know that they will make us proud.”
