Thabo Senong, coach of the Burger King-sponsored South African National U20 team (Amajita) says his plans are getting into place after watching his charges play two productive practice matches on Tuesday.

Amajita played Orlando Pirates’ Multi Choice Diski team and the University of Johannesburg’s SAB League side on Tuesday morning and afternoon respectively.

The games were part of Amajita preparations for their weekend’s international friendly match against Zambia which will be played on Sunday, 12 February 2017 in Lusaka. This match will be played at 15h00.

“The idea of playing Orlando Pirates was to start planning for our West African counterparts in the Cup of Nations; they have many similarities to those of Cameroon who will be our first opponents.

They gave us a run for our money but we are very happy with the exercise. The match against SAB League side University of Johannesburg was to try different formations and see the versatility of a few players; alongside ensuring that the confidence is high and that the fitness levels are on the intensity we want them,” said Senong.

Amajita beat Orlando Pirates MDC side 3-2 and University of Johannesburg 6-0 as they continue with the preparations for the 2017 CAF U20 AFCON which will take place in Zambia from 26 February – 12 March 2017.
