The second phase of the SAFA-CAF A license coaching course taking place at the SAFA Technical Centre, south of Johannesburg will ensure the success of Vision 2022, said SAFA TD Neil Tovey.
A total of 36 upcoming coaches are currently undergoing the gruelling process of attaining their badges and these include two former Banyana Banyana players Martha “Sprinter” Malaku and Lucinda Bowers while former professional players such as Ricardo Katza, Ashley Makhaya, Mandla Zwane, Mohamed Bhamjee and Duncan Lechesa among others make up the bulk of participants.
The course got underway on Friday, 20 January 2017 and will conclude on Sunday, 29 January 2017 when graduates will be awarded with their badges.
Mr Frans Mogashoa and Steve Coetzee are the facilitators of the course in which some of the topics which have been addressed are The Laws of the Game, lessons from the 2016 Rio Olympics, theory of football and the theory of effective training.
“The second phase of the course is going reasonably well and all coaches are eager to learn in a bid to leave a mark for their history,” said Coetzee.
Kattza who is a former SuperSport United defender and captain and currently the assistant coach of the SuperSport United MultiChioce Diski team, believes this is the way to go if former players are to plough back what they leant over the years.
“This has been an eye-opening experience for me and I want to take as much from this as possible because my next mission is to become a competent coach. I have been coaching since 2013 and have learnt that in coaching, one must have an open mind and learn a lot through these SAFA-CAF courses,” said Katza.
