The South African Football Association (SAFA) in conjunction with the Premier Soccer League have concluded the week-long mid-season workshop for Referees and Match Commissioners which took place in Pretoria.

The workshop was held to ensure that the remaining part of the domestic leagues runs smoothly and that officials are up to date with the latest FIFA regulations.

Referees and match commissioners also took part in a few group discussions and practicals throughout the week where they shared ideas and experiences.

FIFA Referee Instructor Mr Felix Tangawarima was very impressed with the participation of the officials throughout the week and is very impressed with the number of women who are participating in the structures of officiating in South Africa.

He also spoke on the progress the country has made in terms of officiating international matches.

“SAFA and the PSL have to be commended for organising this very important workshop.

I was quite impressed with the level of participation in class; the referees are embracing the new concepts.

Another important aspect which we need commend SAFA is that they are bringing in various upcoming young referees which is in line with the FIFA philosophy. The referees however, need to work on their physical fitness which, for some referees, was below the required level,” said Tangawarima.
