mid-season workshop for Referees and Match Commissioners

The South African Football Association (SAFA) in conjunction with the National Premier Soccer League have begun the mid-season workshop for Referees and Match Commissioners which is being held in Pretoria.

The South African Football Association (SAFA) in conjunction with the National Premier Soccer League have begun the mid-season workshop for Referees and Match Commissioners which is being held in Pretoria.

Referee and Match Commissioners workshop takes place from 16 -19 January 2017, and the first fitness test of the week was concluded on Monday.

The intensive course is taking place at Southern Sun, Hatfield, where 78 male and 6 female referees are participating , while 9 female and 31 male match commissioners are also part of the mid-season workshop.

FIFA Instructor Felix Tangawarima is heading the workshop which intends to touch on the latest FIFA Rules and Regulations, the latest laws of the game; along with a series of fitness levels.

“We are making use of this six-week break in the league to ensure that the referees and match commissioners are ready and equipped for what will be a long and exciting second half of the domestic league.”

SAFA head of Referees, Peter Sejake, said: “It is crucial that the level of fitness of the referees is 100 percent so that they manage to stay with the tempo of the matches.”
