SAFA President, Dr Danny Jordaan has hailed Monday, January 9, 2017 Best FIFA Football Awards as a special moment and a night to celebrate football.

The glittering ceremony which took place in Zurich, Switzerland was attended by the who is who of global football. The Best FIFA Football Awards replaces the Ballon d’Or which is a French initiated football ceremony.

“This was an evening to celebrate world football, there were several special moments and the fact that all categories were closely contested goes to show how special this event was,” said Dr Jordaan.

The awards ceremony was the first under new FIFA President, Gianni Infantino and Dr Jordaan said the ceremony left a lasting impression among hundreds of FA Presidents from across the world. He said the fact that all awards were awarded by former football greats was another move that the administration was moving to cement the position of football players, past or present.

“Everything about the event was to celebrate the beautiful game, from the ball which was used for the ceremony to the green carpet which symbolises the playing field. It was a meticulous event,” added Dr Jordaan who had a meeting with FIFA President, Infantino on his scheduled visit to South Africa for a number of initiatives.
