The South African National u20 girls team (Basetsana) were crowned Region 5 champions after beating neighbours Namibia 5-0 in the final on Saturday afternoon, out in Luanda, Angola.

South Africa managed to impress throughout the tournament and players such as Karabo Dlamini and Linda Matlhola managed to grow their confidence levels from the games.

A hat trick by Dlamini and an easy brace for Motlhola was all they needed to unease the Brave Warriors. South Africa wrapped the match up in the first half, as they went into that halftime break with a 3-0 lead.

Namibia thought they would have an easier second half but this was not to be as they gave away a cheap penalty in the 48th minute from a reckless hand ball in the box. Karabo Dlamini did not hesitate to head the team and converted the goal, giving her, her second hat trick of the tournament.

South Africa will go back home with not only the gold medal, but a record to be very proud of. The National u20 Women’s team managed to score an amazing 23 goals throughout the tournament, averaging 4 goals a match. Karabo Dlamini and Linda Motlhalo managed 6 braces between them, while Lelona Daweti had the most assists.
