Rising star Luther Singh says he would love to cap a wonderful u20 COSAFA Cup tournament by helping the Burger King sponsored Amajita win the competition on home soil.

South Africa’s u20 men’s national team meet their Zambian counterparts in the COSAFA Cup final in which the defending champions start as odd favourites.

“It will be like a dream come true if it pens out like that. Having a good tournament and then cap it all with the title, that would be fantastic,” said the 19-year old from Soweto.
The talented striker said the Amajita technical team had assembled a great side that wanted to achieve things and if they give it their best against Zambia, had what it takes to be crowned champions tomorrow at Moruleng Stadium.

“We just need to go there and give it our best. We are a good, all round side and on a good day can do wonders to make the country proud,” said the Gais of Sweden striker.
Singh is currently the top goal scorer of the tournament with five goals after netting a glorious hat-trick against Angola in the semis on Wednesday evening.

“It would be nice to add a few more goals in the final and in the process help my team win the title but even if I don’t score but help the team win the championship, that is the most important thing,” he said underplaying people’s comparisons of him with the great Benni McCarthy.

“McCarthy is one of my heroes and has done wonders for the country and I think it is premature for people to start comparing me with Benni. But who knows, if I continue to work hard, get a contract with a bigger club in Europe, one thing can lead to the other and..,” he smiled.

The razor sharp striker said it was every player’s dream to play in the major leagues in Europe and participate in the Champions League, something Benni McCarthy has achieved with aplomb.

Singh left South Africa when he was only 14 and headed for Fluminense in Brazil before coming back home to play for Stars of Africa Academy. He then joined the Swedish club where he says he intends to use that as a stepping stone to achieve bigger things.

“My principle for now is to remain grounded, keep working hard and normally in such instances the rest of the things will take care of themselves,” he added.
