Substitute Menzi Ndwandwe scored a winning goal at the stroke of full time as Amajita (SA u20 men’s National Team) maintained their 100 percent record with a hard fought win over a resolute Swaziland side that almost spoiled the party for the hosts.

The speedy forward gathered the ball on the right flank, made a run into the box before rifling home an unstoppable strike that sent Thabo Senong’s galloping side close to sealing the semi-finals spot of the 2016 u20 COSAFA Cup tournament that is taking place here at Moruleng Stadium in the North West.

But the Swazis didn’t make life easy for the swashbuckling home side who walloped Lesotho 8-0 in the opening game on Wednesday.

Amajita now play Botswana in the final Group game on Monday in which a win will assure them topping the group.

Amajita created several chances in the entire first half but some dodged defending and good goalkeeping by the Swaziland goalkeeper denied the home side another glut of goals.

Amajita again camped in the Swazi half in the second half but some stubborn defending and good luck kept the score at 0-0 before the 90 minute wonder goal from Ndwandwe.

Coach Thabo Senong was happy with the result and had this to say:

“Swaziland applied a reinforced defence (parked the bus) and they relied on counter attacking football. We had to be patient in building our attacks and we also had to counter their counter attacking football.

I am very happy with the result, the boys worked extremely hard under these excessive hot weather conditions. We are going back to the drawing board to plan for the next match against Botwana,” said Senong.

“Botswana are a good side that believes in keeping possession, so we have to press them aggressively so that we can be able to dominate the game.”
