Bloemfontein Celtic Ladies will face Kanatla Ladies in the first semi-final of the 2016 Sasol League National Championships currently underway at the D’Almeida Stadium in Mosselbaai, Western Cape.

Coal City Wizzards will be up against JVW in the second semi-final.

Both matches will be played on Friday, 9 December 2016 and will kickoff at 16h30.

Celtic confirmed their place after grabbing two wins in as many matches and finished top of Group A. Coal City Wizzards was second with three points and made the semi-finals due to a better goals difference. Richmond Ladies failed to gather any points – meaning they are on their way home.

Tied at three points each at the beginning of the day, Kanatla Ladies needed an 84th minute goal to top Group B – they defeated Golden Ladies 2-1 in the last match of Day 3. The result means they swopped places with City Lads Ladies who were at the summit of the table. Golden Ladies came third without any points.

Newcomers JVW won Group C, but had to sweat for their 1-nil victory against Durban Ladies who were also eyeing first position. UWC finished in third place after losing both their games.

In the 5th/6th Place Play-off, City Lads Ladies will take on Durban Ladies, while Golden Ladies and UWC will contest the 7th/8th Place Play-off.

Those matches will also be played on Friday, with an earlier kickoff of 14h00.

After nine games of the group stages, a total of 66 goals were scored, with Coal City Wizzards the biggest winners when they demolished Richmond Ladies 24-1.

Lesedi Matjila became the top goalscorer instantly when she hit the back of the net seven times, with Neo Mzaza closely on her heels as she chipped in with five goals.

There were also hatricks for Nokuthula Mkhwanazi, Gugu Moyo and Nokuthula Ndlovu, while Thabisile Thaga and Nonhlanhla Mtshweni each grabbed one goal.

The irony is that Richmond Ladies were the first to draw blood in the 4th minute with a goal from Noxolo Nongzasa – but that’s where it ended.

The goal feast for Wizzards started two minutes later until referee’s optional time in the second half.

JVW’s solitary goal was scored by Indira Albaquerque in the 27th minute, and they held on to book their spot in the last four.

Golden Ladies took a 1-0 nil at the break but failed to protect it as they let in two second half goals. Jeanet Fisher pounced with a brace in the 53rd and 84th minutes to ensure her team kept alive their chances of winning the tournament.
