Banyana Banyana captain Janine van Wyk believes a draw would have a fair result – this after they lost 1-0 to hosts Cameroon in the 2016 CAF AWCON on Tuesday (22 November 2016).
The South Africans have just one point after two matches – level on points with Zimbabwe who also lost their encounter 1-0 against Egypt.
Cameroon is top of the table with six points while the North Africans are on three points.
Van Wyk says they played their hearts out against the hosts, but luck was not on their side.
“We gave our all in that match against and we knew it was never going to be easy. We were warriors out there but unfortunately we lost the match. They managed to score the all-important goal but I still believe a draw would have been a better result considering that we fought all the way to the end. However, this is football and such things happen,” said Van Wyk.
“We know what we need to do when we face Egypt on Friday, and we believe we can still make it to the semi finals. We have been in tough situations before and came out victorious, so we are not too afraid of what the future holds for us. We just need to bring out our A game in the next match and ensure that we score the goals that we need. The good thing is that it is still in our hands.”
The Sasol-sponsored Banyana Banyana held their regeneration session on Wednesday morning (23 November) in Yaounde before travelling to Limbe for last group stages match against Egypt.
The clash takes place on Friday, 25 November.
