Mahwelereng Stadium in Mokopane hosted an exciting Sasol League Roadshow this past weekend, on Saturday 29 October where eight clubs battled it out to determine Limpopo’s Top 8 in the women’s League.

Polokwane based Kanatla Ladies FC clinched a three-nil victory over Thohoyandou club, Chippas United Ladies FC in the final fixture, securing their second consecutive win as Limpopo’s Champions. Kanatla Ladies will represent Limpopo at the Sasol League National Championship taking place in December at the Western Cape Province. Their coach, Mkuseli Godlwana is hopeful that this time around, Kanatla Ladies FC will return home with a win and a trophy – a feat that they almost accomplished last year when they came third, after losing to Durban Ladies.

There was no shortage of goals during the fixtures, as was evident in the first match when Sisters FC beat Seven Stars Ladies FC 3-0; followed by a 1-0 victory by the University of Limpopo Ladies FC over Shayandima Morning Stars. Crowd favourite, Ma-Indies Ladies FC played an entertaining game of football and clinched a three-nil victory over Moria Sweepers Ladies FC when Banyana Banyana player, Lebogang Ramalepe scored a brace for her team.

The Diski Queen (female equivalent of Man of the Match) trophies were awarded at the end of every match on the day to Mmaseroka Letsoalo of Sisters FC, Noko Kgomo of the University of Limpopo, Thembane Mathebula of Ma-Indies Ladies FC and finally, Linky Twala Twala of Kanatla Ladies FC.

Brenda Mopeli, Brand Specialist Manager at Sasol said “Limpopo has some of the most talented female football players and it was impressive to see how many loyal supporters the clubs have in their communities. They braved the scorching heat of Limpopo on Saturday to support their teams. At Sasol, we are excited about the growth and development of women’s football and we are proud of our contribution to women empowerment through this partnership with the South African Football Association”.

The Sasol League Roadshow was attended by the recently appointed interim Head Coach for Sasol Banyana Banyana, Desree Ellis and her colleagues local SAFA Scouts, Daphne Mbanyela and Glenda Furumele to scout for potential players for the national team.

SAFA CEO, Dennis Mumble said, “Every year the matches get more and more intense as teams show off their competitiveness. Limpopo definitely has very talented players and this was evident in every single match played this past weekend”.

This year also marks the eighth year of Sasol’s sponsorship of the country’s premier women’s football league, an initiative that has played an integral part in contributing to the growth and development of women’s football in South Africa.

The Sasol League will culminate with the National Championship that take place over a period of one week towards in December.
