No one would ever thought that hardly three weeks after suffering a deadly heart attack, SAFA Technical Director and former Bafana Bafana captain Neil Tovey would be looking in such amazing good shape.

On Wednesday, 2 November 2016, Tovey welcomed SAFA President Dr Danny Jordaan, SAFA leadership in KZN Province and a host of journalists at his home in Durban.

The delegation had tea with the Tovey family, cracked jokes and walked around the yard with most startled at how the imposing former defender, who only a few ago was lying motionless in bed was now able to walk around freely.

“This is a miracle in motion. We never thought we would be here talking to Tovey this early. But that has been Tovey’s nature. He is by nature a fighter and never gives up,” remarked SAFA President Dr Jordaan.

In his own admission, Tovey said his close family would have hoped for the worst because he had to be resuscitated soon after the heart attack.

“When I do an introspection, I find this also very incredible but remarkable but I think my family, close associates, workmates at SAFA and South Africans in general have been amazing.

They contributed a lot to how I managed to pull through but in coming weeks I will take it step by step,” he said.
