The Burger King-sponsored South African u20 Men’s National Team (Amajita) has been drawn against neighbours Lesotho, Swaziland and Botswana in the upcoming 2016 Edition of the u20 COSAFA Cup.
South Africa will play in group A of the tournament where they will be seeking a second consecutive title, following the victory in Lesotho back in 2013.
Amajita will look forward to using this COSAFA Cup tournament as part of the preparations for the 2017 CAF U20 AFCON scheduled for Zambia.
“We would like to thank COSAFA for hosting this very important tournament for our Region. Apart from competing for the trophy, we love the objective of COSAFA and we also believe that to dominate the continent, one need to start in their region,” said coach Thabo Senong.
The Amajita coach said as current champions, the intention was to retain the title and build on from that.
“The team is currently in a training camp preparing for this tournament; and now that we know who we will play, we as the technical team can start planning in detail about the approach,” added Senong.
The COSAFA Cup will be hosted in Rustenburg from 7 – 16 December 2016 and all matches will be played at Moruleng Stadium.
South Africa will get their campaign underway against Lesotho at 19h30, they will then play against Swaziland on 9 December 2016 at 11h00 and conclude group A on 12 December when they face Botswana.
