SAFA President, Dr Danny Jordaan has asked Mamelodi Sundowns players to give it one last push in their quest for continental glory when they take on Zamalek on Sunday evening, 23 October 2016.
Sundowns carry a healthy 3-0 advantage to Alexandria and are favourites to win Africa’s biggest club competition, the CAF Champions League trophy.
“You have done exceptionally well and are so close to achieving one of the greatest feats by any South African team; and would want to wish you all the best,” said Dr Jordaan.
The SAFA President said victory on Sunday by South Africa’s league champions would be a double award.
“You stand on the brink of being Africa’s best club and secondly, you would be Africa’s sole representatives in the prestigious FIFA Club World Cup scheduled for Tokyo, Japan.
They don’t come bigger than the CAF Champions League trophy and all of South Africa’s 50million plus people will be waiting for you with great anticipation to do the country proud,” he added.
Dr Jordaan said Sundowns had a good blend of youth and experience and was confident they would deal with the enormity of the task at hand and challenges of playing away from home.
“We all await to see you being crowned the new African champions and once again good luck.”
