Sello ‘Bosscry’ Mokoena whose contribution to women football development is well documented, has passed away. Mokoena died on Friday, 14 October 2016 after a short illness.

Sello ‘Bosscry’ Mokoena whose contribution to women football development is well documented, has passed away. Mokoena died on Friday, 14 October 2016 after a short illness.

‘Coach Sello’ as Mokoena was affectionately known in the football circles started his coaching career in the 90’s at the then Pretoria Technikon, currently known as Tshwane University of Technology.

He then moved to the University of Pretoria (TuksFootball), where he worked for 13 years, before moving to North West University Vaal Campus (NWU Vaal) in 2013.

While he was at TUKS, he moulded the women’s football programme and developed a number of female players who went on to represent the South African women’s national team (Banyana Banyana).

Coach Sello also held SAFA coaching qualifications and was known for his love and respect of the women’s game. His accolades and contribution in women’s football include serving in different roles within the University Sport South Africa (USSA) Women’s team from 2006 – 2015, as Assistant Coach and Head coach respectively.

His vast experience contributed in the USSA Women’s National Team finishing in the Top 4 of the World University Student Games for the first time, in Kazan (Russia) 2013.

Sello ‘Bosscry’ Mokoena will be missed by many who knew him and those who worked closely with him.
