SAFA President says with the u17 Men’s National Team having romped into the final of the BRICS tournament currently taking place in India, this goes to show Vision 2022 is very much on track.
Congratulating Amajimbos after walloping Russia 3-1 on Thursday, 13 October 2016 to reach the final of the inaugural BRICS u17 Football Cup and book a berth with Brazil, Dr Danny Jordaan said such dominance by South African junior teams augurs well for the future.
Amajimbos goals came from Lyle Foster, Mswati Mavuso and Luke Le Roux. The match was played at the Bambolin Stadium in Goa, India.
“The fundamental philosophy of Vision 2022 is constantly competing and doing well in continental and global tournaments and our junior teams are doing exactly that,” said an elated Dr Jordaan.
“We meet Brazil in the final and matches between South Africa and Brazil in whatever competition or stage group are always unpredictable and explosive and this one should be no exception.
Our u20 defied all odds at the Commonwealth tournament in Russia two years ago and I believe the u17 will bring the trophy home. I want to wish them all the best,” added the SAFA boss.
Dr Jordaan said with the u20 having qualified for CAF Junior Africa Cup of Nations in Zambia next year, South Africa was building world beaters.
“Amajita and Amajimbos are our future and their performances in continental and global tournaments bode well for the country through our Vision 2022.”
Brazil and South Africa will contest the final on Saturday, 15 October at 15h30 and the match will be played at Fatorda Stadium (Kick off 15h30 local time (12h00 SA time).
