The Western Cape u19 Provincial Team has been crowned the 2016 SAFA Women’s u19 Interprovincial Champions after a 2-1 win against Free State.

The final took place on Tuesday, 4 October 2016 in Kagiso, west of Johannesburg.

Goals from Sisanda Vukapi and Faadieyah Simons were enough to secure the trophy for Western Cape for the third time.

Western Cape head coach Priscilla Kotiwas was very proud of the performance of her charges.

“I am very happy with the achievements we got, and as much as this was my first time coaching the team, I owe this victory to the players. We came here with a plan and we executed it perfectly from the word go,” said Kotiwas.

“The Western Cape has a lot of raw talent and there are many young girls playing football all over the province. I believe that we have impressed the scouts out at this interprovincial tournament and hopefully we will see more Western Cape based players in the national set up.”

KwaZulu Natal walked away with the bronze medal following a 1-0 victory over Limpopo.

Idah Ramaphahla took the Referee of the Tournament Award, while Sophy Khoza was named Assistant Referee of the Tournament.

The Goalkeeper of the Tournament Award went to Zamafunze Ngcobo from KwaZulu Natal, while her teammate Nomvuyo Bhengu won the Top Goalscorer of the Tournament Award with five goals.

Nondumiso Mangela from Western Cape was chosen as the Player of the Tournament.
