The South African Football Association (SAFA) has expressed its deepest condolences following the untimely passing away of former veteran football administrator, Lawrence ‘Big Bear’ Ngubane.

The South African Football Association (SAFA) has expressed its deepest condolences following the untimely passing away of former veteran football administrator, Lawrence ‘Big Bear’ Ngubane.

Fondly known as the Big Bear, Ngubane passed away on Sunday, 2 October of heart attack.

The former Orlando Pirates team manager spent the last few days in hospital after suffering a stroke. He was 69.

“We would like to take this opportunity to convey our deepest sympathy to the family, relatives and friends of Ngubane. This is a big loss for the football family.

“The Big Bear was a real servant of the game and played his part like a true soldier. SAFA wishes the family strength at this difficult time,” said SAFA President Dr Danny Jordaan.

Earlier this year Ngubane was one of those bestowed with the Special Recognition Award at the PSL Awards for his contribution to the South African football.
