The FIFA Grassroots Programme workshop in Welkom, Free State has been a huge success.

The workshop started Tuesday, 13 September 2016, with 30 prominent coaches in attendance.

It ended on Thursday, 15 September.

Participants were divided into working groups, and then given different topics to present about coaching children between the ages of 6 and 8.

The topics ranged from coaching how to score goals, dribbling the ball, co-ordination between the player and ball, playing small sided games and mass participation.

“The FIFA Grassroots programme is an important and interactive programme designed by FIFA to develop as many young children as possible. The South African Football Association has been running this programme since the 2010 FIFA World Cup, which we hosted in South Africa. The programme has been to different areas around the country and we believe that we have managed to leave a foot print in the regions we have been to,” said Thomas Sadiki, SAFA Head of Youth Development.

“The two days we spent in SAFA Lejweleputswa have shown that people are passionate about football. We have participants in this programme that seem to really have big dreams and we are proud that we are playing a role in assisting them get one step closer to their ambitions in football.”

The event is part of the process of implementing SAFA’s Vision 2022
