The South African Football Association (SAFA) would like to wish Mamelodi well in their crucial 2016 Orange CAF Champions League semi-final clash against Zesco United of Zambia.

The two sides meet in the first leg on Saturday, 17 September 2016 at the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola, Zambia.

Kickoff is at 15h30.

Sundowns is the only South African club left in CAF competition.

The last time they reached this far in the competition was 15 years ago under the tutelage of the late Ted Dumitru. Back then, Sundowns defeated Petro Atletico of Angola to set up a mouthwatering final with Egyptian giants Al Ahly – but unfortunately they lost 4-1.

““The South African Football Association would like to take this opportunity to wish Mamelodi Sundowns the best of luck in their endevour to conquer the continent. Being the only team left in CAF competition, puts them under tremendous pressure to perform but then again, they have shown in the past that they are capable of getting the desired results,” said SAFA President Dr Danny Jordaan.

“We would like to say to them we are behind you all the way as you hoist high the South African flag. This is a big mission and you have millions of your countrymen behind you, so go out there and only do it for yourself but for all South Africans.”

The return leg is scheduled to be played next weekend, Saturday, 24 September in South Africa.
