Former SAFA Technical Director Horst Kriete says the core existence of any football federation across the world was in developing coaching instructors.

The German was speaking at the end of the 10-day Coaching Instructors’ workshop that took place in Pretoria this past week and was attended by 24 participants from all 9 Provinces.

During the workshop, Kriete was assisted by among other Frans Mogashoa, Steve Coetzee and current SAFA Technical Director, Neil Tovey.

“The world over, my guiding philosophy has always been that education is the most powerful weapon to change the world especially in football world,” said Kriete who has spent the last four-and-half years helping the Chinese administration and coaching set-ups.

“It was nice to be back in South Africa and was nice to get involved in this critical exercise. I would want to have follow-up meetings in which we go to provinces and help develop more and more instructors.”

Kriete said what made him happy during the recent exercise was the fact that among those identified as coaching instructors were five women who participated in the workshop.

“Apart from helping Chinese, I have also been involved in helping grow the game worldwide but South Africa has always been my true second home,” added Kriete.
