Action at the 2016 SAB U21 National Championships in Limpopo continued on Tuesday, 12 July as Day 3 of the tournament produced some exciting football here at the University of Limpopo.

The host Limpopo seems almost certain of a semi-final spot after registering a third consecutive win of the tournament after coming back from behind to clinch a hard fought 2-1 victory over a spirited Mpumalanga side. A win in their next match will secure the hosts a place in the next stage of the tournament.

Another exciting encounter was the match between Gauteng, who are the tournament favourites and North West. A brilliant volley from inside the box by Makhubele Tiyeselani saw Gauteng grab the lead at the stroke of half-time; but Thabang Tladi leveled matters towards the dying minutes of the match to secure a point each for the two sides.

In Group A matches, Eastern Cape registered their first win of the tournament with a hard fought 3-2 victory over Western Cape. The win has slightly boosted Eastern Cape’s chances of making it into the semi-finals. USSA moved to second spot on the log after cruising 3-0 past KwaZulu-Natal to end the coastal side’s hopes of progressing further in the tournament.

The SAB U21 National Championships continue on Thursday at the University of Limpopo.
