A coaching course for Educators was held in the Free State over the past weekend from 23 – 26 June 2016 in Welkom’s Lephola Secondary School.
The practical sessions took place at the Thabong Outdoor Sports Centre.
The course was attended by sixty (60) school educators from the three SAFA Regions of Fezile Dabi, Lejweleputswa and Thabo Mofutsanyane and was run in partnership with the Free State Department of Sport and Recreation – Schools Sport.
Each region nominated 20 male and female football educators.
This is the first of many courses that will be held for the development of the game.
“This is the start of more great things to come from this level. Our aim is to uplift the football educators – we need to ensure that educators or anyone who is involved in schools football should uplift their coaching qualifications. We are now starting with the SAFA D Licence Coaching course, and will move all the way up to the highest level,” said SAFA CEO Dennis Mumble.
“Remember that the better equipped the schools educators are, the better football players we will have at school-going level, and this augurs well for the game around the country, which will lead to stronger national teams.”
SAFA Instructors Phera Ratlhankana and Ms. Merriam Tshabalala led the course with Ishmael Mokitlane as an observer.
The certificate handing over ceremony for the school educators is scheduled for September this year.
All successful educators will have the opportunity to attend the SAFA/CAF C license Coaching Course in March/April 2017.
As part of their assessment to be accredited and also for further training, the course attendants will take part in three football grassroots festivals – which will be attended by 300 children from three primary schools – on the following dates:
- Bethlehem – 12 August;
- Kroonstad – 19 August;
- Welkom – 26 August
