The South African Senior Men’s Football team COSAFA Cup squad are eager to get their campaign underway when they face Lesotho in the first quarter-final of the tournament on Saturday, 18 June 2016.

The match takes place at Sam Nujoma Stadium.

Lesotho qualified for the last eight after beating Malawi 1-0 in the last match of group B last night where they finished top of the standings with nine points.

Lesotho has not conceded a goal in their group stages but Bafana Bafana Head Coach Shakes Mashaba and his assistant Owen da Gama are not concerned about those statistics.

“We will have our last training session this afternoon at Sam Nujoma Stadium to finalize our strategy ahead of the match tomorrow. Fortunately we were able to watch the match between Lesotho and Malawi last night,” said Mashaba.

Both Mashaba and Da Gama feel this youthful squad most of whose players will represent the country at the Rio Olympics can go places.

“We have worked on some clips from the matches played during the group stages. We have seen the strong and weak points of Lesotho and we are ready for them. Of course they will not be push-overs because they have improved a lot over the years. They are very strong and quick going forward. They have about four, five highly skilled players in their squad and they use them very effectively.

However, we have worked very hard in preparing our boys and this is going to be an exciting game,” added Mashaba.

South Africa will lock horns with Lesotho at Sam Nujoma Stadium on Saturday, 18 June 2016. Kickoff is at 15h00 local time (SA time 16:00). The match will be live on SuperSport 9.

The winner of this clash will book a place in the semi-finals of the COSAFA Castle Cup, where they will play the winner between Zambia and Swaziland on Wednesday, 22 June 2016.
