Bafana Bafana midfielder Keagan Dolly (23) says while his career seems to have come a full circle, he is still hungry to achieve more success.

The Mamelodi Sundowns in-form attacking midfielder who has had a blinder of a season with reigning Premier Soccer League (PSL) champions said he was extremely excited with his progress but needed to still work harder to achieve further accomplishments in his blossoming career.

“I have had a busy schedule this past season but things are going to get even busier who is expected to lead the u23 at the 2016 Rio Olympics. And that is the excitement one gets in this football career of ours. I am enjoying every moment of it,” said Dolly.

The straight-talking midfielder said he was eager to maximise the success the sport was bringing on the table. And looking back from the days he was playing for Ajax Cape Town just a few seasons ago, this has been an amazing turnaround for his career.

“It all began when I was called up for the u23 and goals started to come; one thing led to the other and all of a sudden my career started to flourish.

From the u23s, I won my first trophy (the Telkom Challenge) with Sundowns, then the league title, got nominated for three awards during the recently held PSL Annual Awards and now a Bafana Bafana call up,” reminisced Dolly.

Giving credit to those who have pushed him in his career, Dolly said his mum and dad were his biggest heroes and inspiration.

“They have insisted that I maintain a cool head and not to be big-headed. My girlfriend too has been there for me.

And on top of that I want to thank the coaches who I have worked with in this short journey, the likes of the late Ted Dumitru, he had a lot of influence in my career, Muhsin Ertugral who taught me to be a complete footballer, Owen da Gama, Shakes Mashaba and of course coach Pitso Mosimane among others. All these have played a huge role to where I am today.”

On Saturday’s game against Gambia in Bakau, Dolly said Bafana Bafana must get a positive result to remain in contention for a possible qualification in next year’s Africa Cup of Nations finals in Gabon.

South Africa play Gambia at the Independence Stadium in Bakau in a must win encounter at 17h00 on Saturday.
