The South African Football Association (SAFA) would like to congratulate Baroka FC for winning promotion into the Premier Soccer League.

The Limpopo-based team earned the elite status after playing to a 1-1 draw with Milano FC in a tight National First Division match on Sunday, 22 May 2016.

Baroka FC now joins Polokwane City as the two teams in the PSL from Limpopo.

“This is a fantastic achievement by Baroka. Not long ago, they were plying their trade in the ABC Motsepe league and theirs has been more like a fairy tale. But it all boils down to hard work, commitment and the will to achieve things that led them to where they are today,” said SAFA President, Dr Danny Jordaan.

“As SAFA, we would like to take this opportunity to wish them well in the Premier Soccer League and I believe with the brand of football they are playing, they will bring in some added impetus in the PSL.”

The SAFA President said he was also impressed by two other ABC Motsepe products Highlands Park and Mbombela United who together with Amatuks will be involved in the National First Division plays offs.

“The success of these teams is a clear indication that the lower tier league is working wonders. We need to pay homage to Mr Patrice Motsepe for pouring his resources into football development. The results are there for all to see,” added Dr Jordaan.

Highlands Park and Mbombela United will join Tuks in the bid to fight for PSL league status.
