The 2016 SAFA Futsal Interprovincial tournament kicked off at the Orlando Communal Hall, Soweto with great excitement with players intent on impressing scouts and the national technical team.

South Africa will host the 5th Edition of the CAF Futsal Cup of Nations, and are using this inter-provincial tournament to finalize the squad that will represent the country between 15 – 24 April 2016, in Johannesburg, South Africa.

Limpopo opened the games with an exciting 6- 3 win over Northern Cape in group A, while Gauteng Invitational side opened group B with a 4-2 win over Mpumalanga. Eastern Cape beat Free State 3-2 while reigning champions Zulu Natal opened their encounter against the North West whom they walloped 10-1.

Hosts Gauteng beat Limpopo 5-1 in the second match of group A, while Mpumalanga were beaten 1-4 by the Western Cape. Free State lost a very close encounter 4-5 against the Northern Cape.

The last three matches of day 1 saw North West get a 7-2 hammering by the Gauteng Invitational side and hosts Gauteng top Group A after an entertaining match against the Eastern Cape, where they came out 6-2 victors.

Western Cape then produced a shocking win when they beat reigning champions KwaZulu Natal 3-4 to top Group B with 6 points after the first day of action.
