An exhilarating day of football enthralled the community of Sasolburg as the grand finale of the Sasol League National Championships on 13 December saw Mamelodi Sundowns walk away with the prized trophy.

Gauteng’s Masandawana beat Cape Town Roses of Western Cape 5-0 in a one-sided final played under hot weather conditions.

SAFA President Dr Danny Jordaan, FIFA Presidential Candidate Tokyo Sexwale and Executive Mayor Metsimaholo, Local Municipality Councillor, Brutus Mahlaku were some of the dignitaries who came to support the week-long event.

Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies came out in full-force and dominated the match from the first half and scored their first two goals through Andisiwe Mgcoyi and Agnes Nkosi before Zanele Nhlapo converted a penalty which was awarded after a hand ball to give Masandawana a comfortable 3-0 lead going into the half time break.

The tournament top goal-scorer Andisiwe Mgcoyi made it 4-0 in the second stanza before Missy Sethunya put the final nail with the fifth goal on the 89th minute.

In the third and fourth place play offs, Limpopo’s Kantatla Ladies FC beat Durban Ladies 4-1 on penalties after the match had ended 1-1.
