The South African Men’s u17 National Team, Amajimbos, aim to raise the South African flag high in their first-ever FIFA World Cup U-17 which kicks off on Saturday, 17 October 2015 in Chile.

The team spent the day at the High Commission of South Africa in Santiago, Chile before reporting to their base camp in Concepcion.

The Burger King-sponsored Amajimbos have been hard at work polishing up on their technical and tactical play ahead of the world showpiece.

Amajimbos have played against South American oppositions Brazil, Chile and Oceania side New Zealand in their preparation matches.

“Go well in this tournament, we as the embassy are fully behind. Many a time’s people only seek for support from the embassy when they are in trouble, but that is not our sole purposes. Our purpose in this regard will be to be your 12th player on the pitch.

“We will be there to watch all your matches and remember that your being here means that you too are ambassadors of South Africa. So fly that colourful flag high with pride,” said High Commissioner Dr Hilton Fisher.

Amajimbos kick start their 2015 FIFA World Cup U-17 campaign against Costa Rica on Monday, 19 October 2015. This will be followed by a clash against Korea DPR on Thursday, 22 October and Russia on Sunday, 25 October 2015.
