SAFA President Dr Danny Jordaan said he was happy at the way members conducted the Extraordinary Congress that took place in Cape Town on Saturday, 26 September 2015 in which a decision was unanimously taken to align the constitution from the LFAs, Regions, Provinces right up to the National.

This was one of the several critical decisions taken at the Congress, in which all the constitutional amendments and statutes were unanimously approved.

“The alignment of the constitution was critical as this would heavily curtail a number of disputes within the LFAs, Regions and Provinces,” said SAFA President adding the process was thorough as all members were consulted during the course of action.

Talking of the school sport which the congress endorsed must be run by the Association going forward, Dr Jordaan said this process whereby Regions take control of school sport would ensure that the participation is wide and inclusive.

“What this means as well is that more youths will be involved in the game of football meaning more resources have to be poured into the structures as there will be need for more coaches, referees and competitions resources.”

He added that to make sure that talent is identified and nurtured; there will be competitions from the LFAs, to the Regions and Provinces with winners competing in the inter-provincial national tournament.

The Congress also put up a National Schools Committee which is wholly made up of national educators and is chaired by SAFA NEC member Mzimkhulu Fina to engage all schools nationally. This followed the decision by the Congress to withdraw the SASFA license from running school sport anymore.

“There has always been an issue whereby some of the best schools in the country do not play football and only encourage pupils to play rugby or cricket. The job of the committee among other things would be to engage all schools nationally so that all schools play soccer as part of the curriculum.”
