Basetsana head coach Elisabeth Migchelsen has trimmed down her squad of 24 players down to 20 for the travel to Zambia.
The South African Women’s Under 20 National Team faces the host nation in a 2016 Papua New Guinea Women’s u20 FIFA World Cup qualifier.
The first leg second round clash will be played on Sunday, 27 September 2015 at the Nkoloma Stadium in Lusaka.
Kickoff is at 15h00.
The South Africans have been hard at work since the start of their training camp on Friday, 18 September.
They also played a practice match with the School of Excellence boys to ready themselves for the Zambia match.
Basetsana reached this round after defeating Botswana 9-1 on aggregate, and the bulk of the squad that played in that match has been retained.
“We still in the process of finalizing our preparations, come Sunday – day of the match – I believe we will be ready to take on Zambia. The girls want to go out and play for the country and get a good result and I believe they will get that positive result,” said Migchelsen.
“This is a very important match for all of us, especially the young and talented players that we have. For South Africa it is important that women’s football achieve something so it can get more and better exposure.”
Basetsana will have their final training session in South Africa on Thursday morning (24, September) before departing for Zambia in the evening. They return home on Monday, 28 September.
The second leg will be played in a fortnight.
The 2016 FIFA Women’s Under 20 World Cup tournament will be held in Papua New Guinea from 28 October to 16 November.
