Following the loss to Mauritania in a 2017 AFCON qualifier, Bafana Bafana have now shifted their focus and taken aim on the Teranga Lions of Senegal.

The two nations will meet in the 21st Edition of the Nelson Mandela Challenge at Orlando Stadium on Tuesday, 8 September.

Kick-off is at 19h00.

This is an annual event where football and the Nelson Mandela Children’s Fund come together to raise funds for the less privileged children.

The South African Football Association (SAFA) has over the years brought big name countries to participate in the match, with the likes of USA, Brazil, Argentina, Egypt, Netherlands, France, Nigeria and Costa Rica gracing our shores.

Bafana Bafana defeated Cote d’Ivoire 2-0 in 2014 to lift the trophy.

The first Nelson Mandela Challenge match took place back in May of 1994 when South Africa beat Zambia 2-1 at Ellis Park.

As part of the agreement with the Nelson Mandela Children’s Fund, starting this year the SAFA U13 and U15 Boys and Girls tournaments bear the name of Madiba – those events are sponsored by 2010 FIFA World Cup Legacy Trust.

Tickets for the South Africa vs Senegal clash are selling for R60 all round and can be purchased at Computicket outlets, Shoprite and Shoprite Checkers stores throughout the country.
