Day 3 of the u19 Women’s Championship saw finals before the final. Eastern Cape verses KwaZulu Natal was an entertaining affair as both teams pressed each other in the hope of qualifying for the final.

The score in the opening semi final match ended in a goalless draw although both teams had a goal disallowed in the match. Eastern Cape came out victorious after a penalty shootout which they won 4-1.

The second semi final of the day was deemed the final when Gauteng took on current champions Western Cape in the pursuit of making the final. Gauteng held a 1-0 lead throughout the match and thought they had it in the bag, until a great goal was scored by the Western Cape ladies as they wanted to defend their title. This match ended in a 1-1 draw and the penalty shootout had to go into sudden death. The Western Cape goalkeeper showed great courage as she assisted her team with a place in the final.

The final of the 2015 u19 Women’s Championships will take place tomorrow Saturday, 29 August 2015 at Makhulong Stadium in Tembisa. The match will be live on SABC 1 and kick off is scheduled for 15:00.

“This will be an entertaining final, an all Cape final,” said Mr Joe Carrim from the 2010 FIFA World Cup Legacy Trust. “We as the trust are happy that we can sponsor such tournaments, as this is assisting in the developing of women’s football. This particular tournament is meant to be a feeder system to our Basetsana, Bantwana and finally Banyana Banyana. I am so happy to see the type of football displayed here, these young ladies are just impressive.”
