Day one of the Women’s u19 tournament started off with on a great note as the provincial teams were not shy about scoring.

The opening match between North West and Eastern Cape showed that the future of women’s football in South Africa is very promising. The Gauteng ladies also marked their territory, making their presence felt throughout the day as they won both their matches of day one.

Western Cape were the biggest winners on the day as they walked all over Northern Cape.

Coach Anne Monate believes that there is a great improvement in this tournament from the past years.

“The teams are playing like units this year and you can see that the teams have prepared fully to come and compete, there have been many goals scored today and it is going to be a great few days out here in Tembisa,” said Monate.

SAFA selectors were also present at Mehlareng Stadium in Tembisa to look for the next generation of players for the under-17 and under-20 national squads as we continue to improve development of women’s football along with Vision 2022.
