Finalists Mbombela United were the biggest scorers in the 2015 edition of the ABC Motsepe National Playoffs.

The tournament comes to an end on Sunday, 26 July when Mbombela takes on Mthatha Bucks in the final to determine the overall winner of the 2014/2015 season.

Both sides have already secured qualification into the National First Division (NFD). The final will be played at the De Beers Stadium in Kimberly, Northern Cape. Kick-off is at 15h00.

Mbombela scored 10 of the 53 goals in the 16 group stage matches, helping them to accumulate the 10 points that saw them top Group A with just a point more than second-placed Glendene.

The fastest goal was scored in match number 10 by Nkabinde of North West Shining Stars against Magesi FC which ended 1-1.

Thirty seven (37) players managed to get onto the score sheet with the most coming from Mbombela United. The Mpumalanga and Eastern Cape sides have been sharing scoring duties – the 10 goals of Mbombela were scored by nine players, while Mthatha Bucks’ seven goals were scored by six players – and this makes for an interesting final.

Moses Spandeel of Hungry Lions was the only player to score three goals in a match and joined six others in grabbing a brace. Spandeel is currently the top goal scorer with six goals to his name and looks set to walk away with the award at the end of the tournament as he is followed teammate Jurie Basie with three goals.

With both players not involved in the final the only challenge will come from finalists Welcome Qalanto of Bush Bucks and Inky Masuku of Mbombela United – both have scored two goals each but will have to bring their scoring boots to the final if they are to overtake Spandeel.

Whilst they looked lethal going forward, home side Hungry Lions had a porous defence, conceding nine but also scoring the same number.
