Former Bloemfontein Celtic striker Moses Spandeel has shot to the top of the goal scoring charts after leading his side Hungry Lions to a 3-2 victory over North West Shining Stars in their opening Group B fixture of the 2015 SAFA Second Division / ABC Motsepe League National Plays-Offs.

The tournament is taking place in Kimberly, Northern Cape and ends on Sunday, 26 July. Matches on Day 3 were played at the De Beers Stadium.

The win saw Lions, who were enjoying a lot of support in the stands as they are the host team, lead the group with three points followed by Magesi FC who brushed aside Mthatha Bucks in the same stream – but Lions are ahead due to a better goal difference.

The Spandeel show started in the 15th minute, and continued in the 37th minute before wrapping up in the second half (63rd minute). Shining Stars tried to stage a late comeback, grabbing a goal in the 53rd minute and even had Lions holding their breath with a goal two minutes from time, but it was two little too late – second half substitute Tsholofelo Segawe and Mthokozisi Nkabinde the goal scorers.

Mthatha Bucks took the lead just 21 minutes into the match through Wandisile Fukutwa but it did not last long Mphseboshebo Magano equalised 16 minutes later. Magano broke the deadlock five minute before full time to give Magesi FC a 2-1 victory.

In Group A, African All Stars have climbed to the top of the table following a hard-fought 2-1 win against Milford FC of KwaZulu Natal, who are yet to win a match – and with two matches left, KZN side is in danger of missing out on promotion, and showed it when their players looked dejected and were sprawled on the pitch after the final whistle.

All Stars now have six points, two adrift of Mbombela United and Roses United who played to a one-all draw.

Third is Glendene United who had a bye on Day 3, while Milford is bottom of the table with no points.

Vusimuzi Mngomezulu put All Stars into the lead in the 28th minute before Sakhile Kubheka cancelled it just five minutes after the break. Minenhle Mthimkhulu came from the bench to secure victory for the Gauteng side with an 87th minute strike that broke the hearts of the Milford bench.

The last match of the day was an entertaining, end to end clash between Mbombela United (Mpumalanga) and Roses United (Free State) that ended 1-all. Twice Mbombela United hit the crossbar but nothing came off the attempts.

And after a tight first half with nothing on the score board, Roses drew first blood with a goal by Tladi Majake that had the entire squad celebrating in the 76th minute, but their joy was shortlived when Bongani Ndlovu, who came on in the second half found the equaliser with nine minutes remaining.

Four more matches will be played on Day 4 – which could give a clear indication of who is in line for promotion and who will miss out.
