Bafana Bafana made amends for the goalless draw against Gambia on Saturday, overcoming Angola 2-1 in an exciting friendly match at Cape Town Stadium on Tuesday afternoon.

Goals by Thamsanqa Gabuza and a gem by Ayanda Patosi which was however credited to an Angolan player made sure Bafana Bafana are back to winning ways after the recent lean spell.

Man-of-the-match Thulani Serero was inspirational throughout the afternoon and showed why he is one of the most sought after players on the international scene. His vision and runs off the ball were a marvel to watch and was at the heart of most South Africa’s attacks.

The opening minutes saw little goalmouth action as both teams sized each other mostly on the middle of the park.

However, Thamsanqa Gabuza could have done better on the 16th minute following a corner kick but his free header went wide in the match’s real opening chance.

On the 22nd minute, Ayanda Patosi and Thulani Serero danced their way past the Angolan defence but too many exchanges resulted in them being disposed.

South Africa then lost possession in the middle of the pitch moments later and Angola striker Mfutila made a solo run before slamming a ferocious shot past Itumeleng Khune on the 25th minute. It was again a question of having too many touches by Bafana Bafana which resulted in them losing possession.

Refusing to sit back, Serero then provided Gabuza with a pinpoint pass but the striker’s first touch let him down as Angola survived.

South Africa duly equalised at the stroke of half-time when Gabuza finished off a shot by Mahlangu to make it 1-1.

Both teams came back from the break looking to attack more but in the initial stages, the visitors looked more comfortable on the ball.

Mabanga in goals for Angola then made a good save from a wonderful Ayanda Patosi shot on the 63rd minute as Bafana pushed forward in numbers.

On the 67th minute, South Africa duly took the lead through Patosi whose chip gave the Angolan goalkeeper no chance following another pinpoint pass by the outstanding Serero. The goal was however credited to Angolan defender Malanda.

The game then opened up after that goal as Angola threw numbers upfront searching for the equaliser and Bafana Bafana looking to add another goal.

Angola then threatened with Alfonso towards the end but Khune made a brilliant save after Thabo Matlaba had cleared off the line.
