COSAFA would like to clarify erroneous media reports on Monday that suggest South Africa and Zambia will play no further part in the COSAFA Cup 2015 tournament being staged in the North West province.

Although the pair lost their quarterfinal matches on Sunday, both in penalty shoot-outs after 0-0 draws to Namibia and Botswana respectively, they potentially have two more games to play in the competition.

The losing quarterfinalists move through to the Plate semifinals, and if they win there, will enter Friday’s Plate final.

COSAFA introduced the Plate competition in 2013 to ensure coaches would have more opportunity to work with their teams should their sides be eliminated at the quarterfinal stage.

Mozambique were the inaugural Plate competition Winners two years ago when they lost to Zambia in the quarterfinals of the Cup competition, and then went on to beat Namibia and Angola to win the Plate.

The fixtures for the Plate semifinals will take place on Wednesday at the Royal Bafokeng Sports Palace, with the line-up to be completed after Monday’s Cup quarterfinals.

Zambia will play the losing side in the quarterfinal between Ghana and Madagascar, while South Africa take on the loser of the clash between Mozambique and Malawi.
