Maritzburg United ended AmaZulu’s hopes of staying in the PSL as they beat them 2-1 in an Absa Premiership match on Saturday at the Moses Mabhida Stadium.

It was AmaZulu that got the first chance as they were given a free kick, but Marc Van Heerden’s shot was denied by the wall.

In the eighth minute of the match Deolin Mekoa gave Maritzburg United an early lead with a powerful ground shot which saw his team leading by 1-0.

Three minutes later Bongi Ntuli did try to find a goal for AmaZulu but Shuaib Walters was too quick to react to his right and make the stop.

In the 31st minute Usuthu had an opportunity to equalize but Okoriko wasted Van Heerden’s set piece as he headed wide unmarked.

This saw Maritzburg going to the halftime leading by 1-0.

Just after the break Ntuli’s shot missed the target and was only inches away from the far post.

In the 73rd minute Nyongo found an equalizer for Usuthu with a header from Van Heerden’s set piece.

Four minutes later Van Heerden delivered another set piece but this time it went over the cross bar.

In the 79 minute Ndulula failed to chip the ball inside the net unmarked.

Mekoa also came back to search for a goal but Murambadoro managed to hold on it in the 84th minute.

In the last two minutes of the match Mabaso supplied a cross and Mokate made no mistake and found the back of the net for Maritzburg United.

This saw AmaZulu getting a straight relegation from the Absa Premiership.
