The South African Senior National Women’s team, Sasol Banyana Banyana will play Cameroon in the opening match of the 9th Edition of the CAF African Women’s Championships schedued for Windhoek.

The South African Senior National Women’s team, Sasol Banyana Banyana will play Cameroon in the opening match of the 9th Edition of the CAF African Women’s Championships schedued for Windhoek, Namibia from 11 – 25 October.

This Group B opening match will take place on 12 October 2014 at the Independence Stadium and will kick-off at 17h00 local time (18h00 South African time).

The draw for the Championship was conducted on Saturday night, 19 July at the Windhoek Country Club hotel in Namibia.

In Banyana Banyana’s Group is Cameroon, Algeria and Ghana while Group A comprise of hosts Namibia, Zambia, Cote d’Ivoire and Nigeria.

Banyana Banyana were seeded in Group B (B1), as previous Champions, Equatorial Guinea did not qualify for this year’s tournament. According to a statement by CAF on the draw procedure, “B2 shall compromise of the cup holder, Equatorial Guinea, who did not qualify for the final tournament, or the team having obtained the best ranking in the previous tournament”.

Banyana Banyana finished in second place in the last tournament in 2012, losing 4–0 to Equatorial Guinea in the final, thus qualifying as the team with the best ranking.

The four countries in each group will play a round-robin system, with the top two teams advancing to the semi-finals.

The top three finishers at the tournament will automatically qualify for the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup, scheduled for Canada.
