The South African Senior Women’s National Team, Sasol Banyana Banyana continue with their preparations for the 2014 African Women’s Championships (AWC).

The team will hold a one week training camp from 16 – 20 June, at the Bedfordview FC grounds.

Sasol Banyana Banyana’s preparations for the 9th edition of the African Women’s Championships started on a positive note with the team’s 4-0 victory over Botswana in an international friendly match played at the Isak Steyl Stadium at the Vaal University of Technology (VUT) in Vanderbijil Park.

Head coach Vera Pauw said it was important to continue with the training camp, to monitor the players and to work on aspects that needed to be fine-tuned.

“We have to continue with the training and not give players a long break out of camp. Every camp is important for us as it gives us time to work on our play and other departments that we have to improve on ahead of the African Women’s Championships,” she said.

Pauw has invited USA-based midfielder Jermaine Seoposenwe to the training camp. Seoposenwe, who joined the Samford University soccer team at the start of their 2014 season, has not featured in Pauw’s past selections.

“The squad we currently have is the core of the team, we need to solidify them as we work towards our goal of becoming a force to be reckoned with in international women’s football. There are players that we will still look at before we finalise the squad for African Women’s Championships, hence we have invite Seoposenwe to the camp,” Pauw added.
