A total of 66 grassroots coaches and 24 referees from across the country completed a week-long training workshop which was run by the Premier League, British Council, SAFA and several NGOs.

The inaugural workshop which took place at Soweto’s Nike Centre culminated in participants receiving their certificates on Sunday.

The main purpose of the workshop, which will take place on an annual basis going forward, is to align the Premier League courses with those of the SAFA grassroots programmes.

“We are very grateful for the Premier League and British Council for this programme which will go a long way in developing our coaches and referees’ skills.

“We are looking forward to strengthening this relationship going forward. It goes a long way in helping SAFA’s training of coaches and referees at grassroots level; and for this, we want to thank the Premier League and the British Council,” said SAFA Acting Technical Director Fran Hilton Smith.
