Tribute To The Late Former Banyana Banyana Player, Eudy Simelane
01 May 2008

Anna Monate, the Women's Under 20 National Team, has expressed her shock in the passing away of Eudy Simelane, her former Banyana Banyana teammate, who also played for Springs Home Sweepers FC

“She had such amazing talent and played as a midfielder,” says Coach Monate, who is in Angola leading South Africa's defense of the COSAFA Women Championships' title where they arrived yesterday evening. “To me she was just too young to leave this life. She had such great energy and Eudy passes away at a time when she was a central role of development at Sweepers.

“She was always ready to assist others and a very humble person indeed. She didn't have a nickname because her name on it's own was unique. I'm really dumbfounded about this sad news. This is a real loss to national football because her talent in women's football is not abundant around the country and I know her players have been hit hard by this at the club,” says Monate.

The South African Football Association joins family and friends in celebrating Eudy's life and may she rest in peace.
