Establish the Congress of South African Football Academies
It is also the duty of the Coaching Education Department to ensure that all football development Academies are informed about the development concept the Nation is to follow. There should be uniform development concept to all development academies in
South Africa. It is through this forum that the coaches who are directly dealing with development of players in the country will address their experiences in order to keep to the South African development concept.
This forum is going to help the Coaching Education about the requirements and demands of standards which has got to be maintained for a fully fleshed academy. Remember, due to our different environments and climates in
South Africa the standard of academies will never be the same. We will also manage the age-groups of the players in academies and fly-by-nite academies will finally fade away.
This forum will help in supplying better players to our senior club teams, NSL/PSL and National Teams.
South Africa has got different regions, Geographical, Economical, Social and etc. The country also has many nations with different cultures and traditions which still has to combine and come up with one national footballing culture. This is an enormous challenge!

The standard requirements of an academy will always differ because of the different environment factors and the nature of academies. There are academies like the SAFA Sports School of Excellence, which if fully fleshed should have the following:-
accommodation deometries, academic infrastructure, football practice infrastructure, academic curriculum, football development curriculum, full-time employed coaches, full-time employed teachers, full-time employed administrators, International exchange programmes and SAFA approved football development philosophy and concept.
We therefore have different types of development set-ups e.g.
- Development centres
- Development from club structures
- Schools
- Schools of Excellence
- Academies
