| Johannesburg - Today at South African Breweries World of Beer complex the Chairman of the Premier Soccer League, Dr. Irvin Khoza announced that the title sponsor of the Premier Soccer League competition would be Absa Bank Limited. At the historic announcement made today, Mr. Rob Fleming, Sponsorship Manager of The South African Breweries Limited ceremoniously handed over the Castle Lager Premiership trophy to the Marketing Director of Absa, Mr. Happy Ntshingila, in a gesture of handing the reigns over to Absa Bank to take the PSL and the Premier League to 2012 in a 5-year deal concluded between the PSL and Absa Bank Limited. |

Dr. Irvin Khoza said: "SAB, through its flagship brand, Castle Lager, invested in South African Football nearly 50 years ago when it was not fashionable to do so. SAB played a key role in football’s development and has made a significant contribution to the strong position the PSL finds itself in today. SAB continues to play a significant role in South African football with its recent sponsorship of Bafana Bafana, which will hopefully ensure a performance by our national team at the 2010 FIFA World Cup that will make all South Africans proud. After contributing to the formation of a powerful PSL, SAB is handing over the reins to another iconic company in Absa Bank and we are delighted that SAB will remain part of the PSL family – as a supplier to the PSL.
Mr. Rob Fleming of SA Breweries congratulated Absa and wished them every success in their new prime soccer property acquired from the PSL. Mr. Happy Ntshingila was ecstatic that Absa had secured the jewel in the crown of the PSL’s soccer properties and again reiterated Absa’s commitment to football in South Africa and promised the 44 million South African football supporters that Absa was committed and determined to take the professional game of football to a new level of excellence and enjoyment. He went on to say: "the association that Absa has had with the PSL with its sponsorship of the Absa Cup was instrumental in Absa’s decision to take a quantum leap forward in its commitment to football in South Africa by taking on the sponsorship of the jewel in the crown, the PSL League competition. Absa’s commitment to the PSL and professional football in South Africa is today, tomorrow, together."
Dr. Khoza congratulated Absa on their vision and commitment to professional football and the PSL, and confirmed that Absa’s continuous and unwavering support for football in South Africa has now culminated in the Bank being awarded the PSL’s jewel, as the exclusive sponsor of the Premier League competition. "We congratulate Absa, its Board of Directors and its Management for joining hands with the PSL in this historic moment of PSL history. The PSL and its 16 shareholders are fully committed to making your sponsorship of the Premier League competition one of the most successful in the history of the Bank. I would like to thank my Executive Committee, as well as my Sponsorship and Marketing Committee for all their hard work and dedication to making the PSL’s dream a reality." He concluded by announcing that the new name of the Premier League competition would be the Absa Premier League.
