Parreira Happy With Bafana’s Perfomance
23 January 2010
South Africa’s head coach; Carlos Alberto Parreira says he is pleased with the team’s performance on Saturday (23 January 2010); and hopes the team can carry the momentum going into the match against Zimbabwe.
Bafana Bafana won six-two (6-2) against Swaziland in a practice match at the Chatsworth Stadium in Durban.
“It is a good thing that we scored a lot of goals and I am very happy about that fact; it is always good to score a lot of goals against any team. I was most impressed with the team’s co-ordination, attitude and mentality during the match, I was just disappointed with the fact that we conceded two goals; despite it being a practice match we should not concede such goals at this level of football. We need to eliminate such mistakes,” Said Parreira.
Parreira also highlighted the fact that the match against Zimbabwe will be much tougher but the team will make necessary preparations.
“Zimbabwe will be a much tougher opponent and we should be weary of them, we had a lot of substitutions against Swaziland and so we were able to use two different squads and that helped us a lot,” he added.
Player’s quotes:
Gert Schalkwyk:
“I’m very excited at this point in time, I enjoyed playing with Teko and hoping to get another chance against Zimbabwe on Wednesday and also looking forward to a call-up after this camp. I’m working hard to get a place in the final World Cup team.”
Reneilwe Letsholonyane:
“It was a good game for us, the goals were a great moral booster, I’m happy with the result because despite it being a practice match Swaziland really played well.”
Lucas Thwala:
“Zimbabwe will be a much more difficult opponent to deal with because they have a number of players who are currently plying their trade in South Africa and are farmiliar with our style of play.”
