Mokoena In Full Support Of SAFA Leadership
26 January 2010
Former SAFA CEO, Albert Mokoena, has distanced himself from a dissident group formed after losing the 26 September 2009 SAFA elections. In a signed affidavit, Mokoena pledged his support to the new SAFA leadership.
Contents of Mokoena’s affidavit read as follows: “Although it was reported in the media and through TV visuals, I had just been called to attend a meeting, the agenda which was unknown to me. I was then requested to call the media for a conference. I was not part of the meeting deliberations as I’m not a Regional President, the print media quoted me incorrectly. I therefore distance myself from the alleged disgruntled group and will as always, support the SAFA NEC and administration as would be required of me. I am willing to appear before any tribunal. My apologies if any inconvenience and embarrassment the perception might have caused, I support the structure that is currently administering and controlling football in our country,” said Mokoena.
SAFA President Kirsten Nematandani says football belongs to all who subscribe to the aims and objectives as contained in the SAFA Constitution. He adds that the SAFA leadership has urged the membership to put the interest of football first, with the understanding that football is bigger that individuals.
“We applaud Mr Mokoena for his bold stance to set the record straight, as a responsible Association we can’t tolerate malicious campaigns to destabilize and derail the good work that is currently been done by the new administration. We are forging ahead with our mission to transform football for the benefit of the SAFA membership and our country”, said Nematandani.
