Memorial and Funeral Service of Two Witbank Players
28 January 2010
The Local Football Association (LFA) of Witbank has announced that there will be a memorial service for the two players who passed away in a car accident on Sunday (24 January). The memorial service will be held in Witbank on Thursday, 28 January at Hlalanikahle Ext 11, next to the taxi rank. It starts at 16h00.
The two deceased players, Muzomuhle Zwane and Sunday Malinga, were part of a group of eight travelling in a minibus to an SAB Regional League fixture where their team Impikayipheli FC of Witbank was going to face Rhino FC of Kwa-Mhlanga. Six others were taken to hospital, and five were later released. Wonder Ndlovu is still in hospital.
Zwane and Malinga will be laid to rest on Saturday, 30 January in different places. Zwane will be buried in his home town of Kwa-Nongoma in KwaZulu Natal, while Malinga’s resting place will be in Fene, near Dondonald on the border of Swaziland.
“The league matches in our region have been suspended for this weekend (26 – 28 January) to allow for players to attend the funerals. The matches will now be played on Wednesday, 27 January,” says Charles Mhlongo, the secretary of the Witbank LFA.
